38 hurt in Sharjah bus-truck collision

A major accident involving a cement truck and a bus carrying labourers happened in Sharjah injuring 38 Asian workers, two of them seriously.

The accident happened on Tuesday early morning when the labourers – most of the Indians – were travelling from Ajman to Sharjah.

According to Sharjah Police sources, the bus carrying workers of a contracting company collided with a truck transporting cement bags.

The heavy truck was coming from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards the Al Ittihad Road while the bus was coming from the Ajman Industrial Area towards Al Ittihad Road when the accident happened.

The truck hit the bus on the right side, causing it to turtle several times, injury as many as 38 workers.

The bus-truck collision is the latest in a series of road accidents involving heavy vehicles.

Motorists are urged to remain vigilant while entering the main roads. The accident was caused by the careless drivers, risking the life of passengers.
