Jordan has pre-qualified five consortiums for a project for the supply and installation of energy systems for the energy sector, a statement said on Friday.

The ministry of energy and mineral resources said the five include Jordan’s Realsoft plus Prognoz of Russia - the Amman-based Consolidated Consultants - China’s Beijing North star-- the UK’s Fichtner-- and the UK’s Proventa plus Jordan’s Nafith.

The ministry, which invited bids for the project in July, said it aims to establish an integrated energy information system in the Arab country to support the sector and ensure better planning for its development.

The ministry’s statement did not provide further details of the project but said bidding closed on September 10.

Jordan’s Arabic language daily Al Rai said the project coincides with a government programme to diversify the country’s sources of energy supply and reduce imports through the establishment of solar energy projects.

It said the programme aims to increase the share of renewable energy in Jordan’s energy mix to 7% in 2015 and 10% in 2020, including 600-1,000 MW from winds, 300-600 MW from solar sources and 30-50 MW from waste.
