Q Group of Companies, a Dubai-based developer, is planning to build a luxury resort on the Great Britain island on The World.

The developer on Wednesday said it has signed an agreement with Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to provide water transport to visitors to the island.

“RTA will operate water taxis and ferries to the island once it has been developed into a luxury resort,” Safi Qurashi, Chief Executive Officer, Q Group, said.

The 20 minute cruise to the Island will offer visitors a stunning view of the beautiful shores and skyline of Dubai.

“We had a plan when we bought Great Britain and it hasn't changed," Qurashi said.

“We are excited about the prospect of delivering our unique vision. In the near future we plan to launch the island project and reveal the exciting plans for this unique destination. I believe the World Islands will offer a unique experience in Dubai,” he added.

The agreement was signed by Qurashi and Dr Yousif Mohammed Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer, Public Transport Agency, RTA.

“The RTA has always been keen on broadening the public private partnership in a way that enhances the services delivered to the public and safeguard the interests of the two sides,” said Al Ali.

He reaffirmed RTA’s constant commitment to collaborating with all government and semi-government organizations and privately-held companies to accomplish its landmark projects and deliver world’s best services to the public from all social segments.

In January, Emirates 24|7 reported that Kleindienst Group, the developer of The Heart of Europe, is starting construction on the project, which will have “snow and rain-lined streets.”

The World project is nine-kilometres wide and seven kilometres long.

It covers an area of 931 hectares and will add 232km to Dubai’s natural 67km of beachfront.

The islands range from 150,000 to 450,000 square feet in size.

According to Nakheel’s website, The World has five different types of island community: Estate Islands, Mid Density, High Density, Commercial and Transportation, and Resort Islands.

The islands were initially sold by invitation only and were priced in the range of $20 million (Dh73.4m) to $50 million.
