Abu Dhabi-based Burjeel Hospital plans major expansion over the next few years by opening a number of medical facilities and tripling its current workforce, its chief executive officer said.

Clancey Po told Emirates 24l7 in an interview that Burjeel Hospital will invest $1.5 billion (Dh5.5 billion) in its expansion drive to open 4 hospitals, 15 medical centres and 5 speciality clinics in Abu Dhabi over the next three years.

Burjeel Hospital, part of Abu Dhabi’s VPS Healthcare Group, also plans to increase its 500 workforce.

“The group has 5,000 employees and Burjeel itself has 500 staff; we plan to triple in three year by hiring over 400 doctors and 1,000 nurses,” Po said in a telephonic interview.

VPS Healthcare Group, started by its Managing Director Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, has medical facilities in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sohar and Salalah.

The group recently opened a new medical centre Burjeel Medical Centre (BMC) located at the ground floor of the Deerfields Townsquare Mall in Al Bahia, Abu Dhabi.

The new centre was established as an extension of Burjeel Hospital to expand its quality of healthcare services to the residents of Al Bahia and its neighboring areas. The centre offers many specialty services such as internal medicine, family medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology, general surgery, dental, orthopaedics, cardiology, ENT and dermatology.

“The Centre is spread over 70,000 square feet with 14 specialities; we hired about 70 staff,” Burjeel Hospital CEO Clancey Po said.

He said one major hospital called Burjeel Medical City will be opened in Mohammed bin Zayed City, offering 400 beds. More medical facilities will be opened in Al Ain and the Western Region.

“The expansion is a three-year plan and we have already started implementing it,” Po added.
