Inflation in consumer prices in the emirate of Abu Dhabi rose to 2.7 per cent year-on-year (y/y) in the first half of 2016, compared with the same period last year, according to Statistics Centre-Abu Dhabi.

The Abu Dhabi inflation rate, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), rose 0.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2016, when compared with the first quarter of the same year.

In June, the inflation rate reached 2.1 per cent, compared with the same month last year. The CPI rose by 0.6 per cent in June 2016, compared with the same month the previous year.

The rise in inflation in the first half of 2016 was mainly due to the segment of housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, which accounted for 84.9 per cent of the rise as prices in this segment shot up by 7.1 per cent, the Statistics Centre-Abu Dhabi said in its latest report.

The segment of commodities and various services was the second largest contributor to the rise in inflation as prices in the segment shot up by 3.1 per cent over the first half of this year, compared with the same period last year.
