After they went crazy over curved TVs with 55, 65 and 105 inch editions, LG is now bent on making your desktop monitor curved.

The South Korean firm in introducing three new monitors at IFA in Berlin and claims it is the first to bring the curved experience to your desktop.

“Many people spend more time in front of computer monitors than they do in front of TV sets and yet the industry’s biggest monitor manufacturers don’t seem to innovate at the same pace as TV manufacturers,” said Hyoung-sei Park, head of the IT Business Division at LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company.

The flagship 21:9 Curved UltraWide Monitor (model 34UC97) Quad HD resolution display with 3440 x 1440 pixels. According to LG it is more geared towards digital photographers and filmmakers, offering them “the level of detail and accuracy that their work demands.”

Compatible with both PCs and Macs, the monitor supports Thunderbolt 2 and comes with MAXX AUDIO and 7W stereo speaker system.

The 31 inch LG Digital Cinema 4K Monitor has a display of 4096 x 2160 pixels also features Dual Color Space and LG’s exclusive True Color Pro calibration software.

The next in line is the LG 24GM77 a new Gaming Monitor which the company says is specifically designed to handle the fast-paced action of the latest first person shooters (FPS).

“A refresh rate of 144Hz ensures that even the most intense action appears smooth and flicker-free, while LG’s Dynamic Action Sync (DAS) Mode drastically cuts input lag, enabling the player to respond faster to what’s happening on the screen,” LG says in its note.

Despite the hype, sales of curved TV panels have remained low. “What’s the difference I don’t want to pay hefty premium just to get into the latest fashionable trend in my living room. In terms of viewing experience no sales men in any of the electronic outlets have been able to convince me with the advantages of a curved TV,” says Fatima Ahmad.

As LG itself explains the best advantage of a curved OLED panel is it ability to enhance the viewer’s immersive experience with its curved form. “Because the screen ‘wraps around’ the viewer, the viewer gets the feeling of stability and being immersed in the image as if he/she is at the amphitheater.” A curved display thereby could after all be most suitable for your desktop monitors at work more than the television screens at home.
