Apple's cheaper new iPhone 5... thank Samsung?

Apple might resort to a new pricing strategy for its new iPhone 5 to beat back the challenge Samsung is posing.

If the myriad court cases between the companies do not affect the outcome of this smartphone war, pricing well might.

According to Apple trackers the company could reduce the price of the new iPhone to $800, for the 64 GB model, cheaper by when 50 compared to its pricing for the iPhone 4s, in the United States.

Meanwhile, Twitter has been abuzz with Apple expecting to price the new device at $800.

While most reactions expressed shock, terming it too high, if true, a contract free iPhone 5 at $800 will still be cheaper by $50 compared to the current iPhone4S.

Twitter users went berserk with hilarious comments on the rumour at #800DollarsForAniPhone like:

That thing better take me home when I touch the home button @__AmbitiousDior

It better come with detailed Caller ID. Siri- "Terell is calling and is going to ask for money... Should I ignore?"

it better take me home when i hit the home button and have twerk on demand

it better fly me to work when I put it on airplane mode”

It Better Tell Me Who My Girlfriend's With , Where She At , What Time She Left The House , & What She Got On !”

In the UAE the iPhone 4S is currently being sold for Dh2,599 for 16Gb and Dh2,999 for a 32Gb model and Dh3,399 for a 64GB unit.

However, prices of used models have been dropping as well.

A 16GB model is selling for as less as Dh1,000.

A 64GB Samsung Galaxy is priced between $799.00 to $1,087.00.

In the UAE a 32GB S3 is selling on Souq.com between Dh2,200 to Dh2,600.

Pre-order the way to go

Are you planning to pre-order your new iPhone 5?

The wait is almost over, even as the launch date for Apple’s next generation iPhone5 nears, it is now emerging that the company plans to start taking preorders almost immediately after launch on September 12.

The new iPhone 5 is expected to go on sale starting September 24 and for all those who want to avoid long queues, (that is if you happen to be in one of the countries where it will be launched), pre-ordering the device will be the best bet.

The much thinner and slimmer phone will have a smaller dock connector and the new iOS6 is also to exclude key Google products including Google Maps and YouTube.

The expectation and demand for the phone is so high that one unit was smuggled out of factory earlier this month.
