Anti-Commercial Fraud Exhibition starts tomorrow in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Business Center of the Department of Economic Development is organising tomorrow the 6th Anti- Commercial Fraud Exhibition at Abu Dhabi Marina Mall with the participation of the Ministry of Health, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the Arabian Anti-Piracy Alliance (AAA) and a number of major companies and commercial agencies.

Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development will open the 5-day exhibition, which will showcase 616 fraudulent and counterfeit goods and items and corresponding original consumer goods and brands of the participating companies and entities, such as bags, shoes, cosmetics, hygiene products, engine parts, watches, CDs, gadgets, sports items, clothes, mobile phones and accessories, electrical appliances, audiovisual transmitters and others.

Mohammed Rashid Al Rumaithi, Executive Director of Abu Dhabi Business Center said, "Commercial fraudulence has become a widespread global phenomenon worth paying attention to; which prompted the Department to organize such exhibitions and activities to protect our communities and preserve our national economy ".

Al Rumaithi noted that the organizing  of this exhibition on annual basis, comes under the plan of the Commercial Protection Section  of Department of Economic Development to continuously raise the  awareness of consumers, indicating that the  importance of the exhibition stems from the fact that the U.A.E.  maintains a free and open economy; and that the business community enjoys freedom in accordance with the regulations and organizing laws, which called on the Department of Economic Development  to take several measures to protect  consumers and business activities, and keep  consumers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular abreast of  how to recognize and distinguish between fake and genuine products.

He said that the exhibition is an opportunity for consumers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, to learn directly from the exhibitors, representatives of companies and agents of trademarks, about their original and genuine goods and products; and how to discover and spot fake, fraudulent and counterfeit goods.

Al Rumaithi explained that there are joint efforts and coordination between the Abu Dhabi Business Centre, the Ministry of Economy, relevant government agencies, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and other entities to control violations, disseminate warnings and turn offenders to justice in accordance with the stipulations of the Federal Law Concerning the Suppression of Fraud and Deception in Commercial Transactions.
According to Al Rumaithi, the Abu Dhabi Business Center, during this year, had organized training courses and seminars for the inspectors of the Business Centre, in cooperation with a number of major trading companies and commercial agencies, to develop their abilities and potential and activate their oversight role.
