Cha Cha Chai, a subsidiary of building materials group Danube, plans to open 100 branded outlets in the UAE and other GCC countries. Speaking to ‘Emirates24|7’, Adel Sajan, Director of Danube Group, overseeing the tea shop business, said the initial response from customers, especially the Arab and Indian community is encouraging.

For an ordinary outlet of 700 square feet, the group is investing Dh1 million each, according to Adel.

Currently, there are 11 operational outlets of Cha Cha Chai. “Our objective is to provide customers a luxury of drinking premium tea blends in a relaxed atmosphere, along with snacks and food.”  Cha Cha Chai outlets are planned in metro stations, petrol stations, malls and other convenient locations, with the catchword – ‘Chai on the move!’

“We started our diversification drive five years ago and our entry in the food and beverages sector is new. There are a lot of Indians and Arabs who love drinking tea, especially flavoured teas. But there is no specialized tea café in the city. Cha Cha Chai is designed as a destination for tea lovers,” Sajan said.

“There are a lot of coffee shops in shopping malls and other places. Cha Cha Chai will now become an alternative location for tea lovers to come and spend some time. Cha Cha Chai has already got outlets in several places in Dubai and Sharjah. The Cha Cha Chai Longue in Karama is the first specialised outlet of 7,000 square feet, with various tea blends.

These shops also sell sandwiches, biriyani and other snacks and food items. Tea flask and other utensils used for tea consumption are also sold through the Cha Cha Chai outlets.

“I am a regular customer now in Cha Cha Chai because it is a comfortable place to relax and have tea with my friends or family. And I keep coming back here due to the special flavours,” said Biju Divakaran, a regular visitor to the outlet and a tea addict.
