Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has launched two 132/11kV substations in the second quarter of 2014, which are now fully operational.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said, "Dewa is relentlessly working to perform its projects whether related to production capacity or transmission and distribution grids to meet the increasing demand for electricity for different purposes."

The first substation is at Nad Al Hamar and provides electricity to the infrastructure projects of Meras Group. It has three transformers providing 50 Megavolt Amperes (MVA) each with a total capacity of 150 Megavolt Amperes. The second substation is at Jebel Ali Port wharf and meets the increasing electricity requirements of Dubai Ports. It is composed of three transformers with a total capacity of 150 MVA.

"During the second quarter of this year, around 34 km of 132 kV cables were laid to connect these substations. Dewa has a robust and modern infrastructure that delivers our electricity and water services for different purposes and at the appropriate quantities," said Al Tayer.
