Japanese auto giant, Honda has recalled more than 2,700 vehicles in the UAE, the carmaker’s third global recall this summer, a spokesperson from Honda’s Middle East dealership said.

Honda Middle East confirmed it will recall 2,701 cars in the UAE in order to repair a faulty electric window mechanism, Emarat Al Youm reported.

The move is part of a global recall of nearly 960,000 vehicles and includes 2006 to 2008 Honda City models and 2006 CR-V models.

“We have not seen any complaints but we foresee there may be complaints so this is a precaution,” said Arijit Basu, the general manager of sales for Honda Middle East.

Basu confirmed the spare parts would be delivered to Al Futtaim Honda and the distributor would contact any owners impacted by the recall and the repairs would be carried out free of charge.

Speaking to Emarat Al Youm he said, “The recall includes 1,146 Honda (CRV) for models 2006, 2007 and 2008 and 1555 Honda (City) of 2008 only.

He added that the maintenance process will be implemented in Honda service centers in the UAE, affiliated to (Al Futtaim), the automaker’s local dealer in the UAE.

He pointed out “maintenance will be carried out free of charge, customers will not bear any costs as a result of the maintenance processes.

However, he said that customers would not get alternative vehicles during the maintenance period that will take a short time.

Basu said that the defect affects only some cars where the process of rolling the glass up or down becomes a bit hard.

“(Honda) has not received any complaints in this regard by clients so far in the UAE, but carried the campaign as a preventive measure before receiving any complaints for selling models in the UAE and the rest of the Middle East, after the discovery of this defect abroad,” Basu confirmed.

He added the company has records of all customers who have purchased these models, and will contact them to bring the car to repair this defect.”

He insisted that all models of Honda in the UAE are working well, and there are no other major defects in any cars.

HONDA is coordinating with the Ministry of Economy to run the campaign effectively so that all client are aware of the issue.

The campaign includes the Honda cars in all countries of the Middle East.
