Honda recalls around 3,500 vehicles in UAE

Honda is recalling around 3,500 vehicles in the UAE including its popular Civic and Accord brands due to passenger-side airbag problem.

The recall of 3,469 vehicles of 2002 and 2003 models was announced by the Japanese automaker and its UAE distributor Trading Enterprises.

The affected models to be recalled include Civic (533), CR-V (504), Stream (90), Jazz (5), Accord (1,942), Odyssey (32) and MR-V (363) vehicles.

The company said the passenger-side’s airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure and if an affected airbag deploys, the increased internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture. In the event of rupture, metal fragments could be propelled upward towards the windshield or downward toward the front passenger’s foot, resulting in injury to the passenger.

The company said it would replace parts of the vehicle if required. Customers can contact on 80046632 to book an appointment with the dealer.

Last month, Honda said it was recalling over 2 million vehicles worldwide due to flawed Takata airbag inflators made in 2000-02 with a risk of exploding and shooting out shrapnel at drivers and passengers. It cited how explosive material used to inflate Takata passenger-side airbags had been handled and processed in 2000-02 at plants in the United States and Mexico.

Overall, 10.5 million have been recalled due to the airbag problem over the past five years.
