Omani Business Council to be set up in Dubai

Dubai and Sultanate of Oman aim to boost trade through Hatta border and also looking to set up an Omani Business Council in the emirate as bilateral trade between the two reached Dh16 billion in the first nine months of this year, officials said.

“The value of the trade between Dubai and Oman in 2013 reached Dh19 billion, i.e. more than twice as the value of the trade between Dubai and Oman in 2010 which amounted to Dh6 billion. In 9 months, starting from January to September 2014, the value of trade reached Dh16 billion,” said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Director of Dubai Customs.

 Musabih held a meeting with Salem Muslim Samhan Al Kathiry, Manager of the Commercial Office of Sultanate of Oman in Dubai.

The meeting was attended by Faisal Eissa Lutfi, Acting Director of International Affairs, Dubai Customs and Saba Al Mussa, Manager of Marketing & Information, Commercial Office of Sultanate of Oman in Dubai.

Both parties also discussed the necessary procedures for developing the traffic of commercial trucks across the borders of the two countries through Hatta border customs center and monitor the traffic of trucks using intelligent technologies.

“We’ll provide traders and investors from the Sultanate of Oman with our developed smart customs services available 24/7 through smart phones and watches, saving the time and efforts of providing services for the best interest of customers choosing Dubai as the base of their commercial operations,” said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih.

“Dubai is one of the most important trade hubs that Omani companies are interested to use as a base for their trade and investment in several areas of the world. There are approximately 500 Omani companies operating in Dubai in various fields of trade and investment. In the near future, the Omani Business Council shall be established to coordinate between the Omani companies and various departments of the Emirate,” Salem Muslim Samhan Al Kathiry added.
