The Japanese, American and German automobile companies have announced major recall of a more than 2,600 vehicles of different models due to defects in the UAE.

Japanese firm Honda has recalled 2003-04 models of its popular sedan vehicles Civic and Jazz, multi-purpose vehicle Stream and sports utility vehicle CR-V because the passenger side airbag inflator could rupture during deployment due to abnormal pressure and push metal fragments through the airbag.

Nearly 1,700 Honda vehicles have been recalled due to the defect and the Japanese firm will replace parts – if needs be, the Japanese automaker said in an advertisement published in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy.

It urged all customers to contact its customer care centre for further details.

Another Japanese automobile giant Nissan has recalled its three SUVs X-Trail, Pathfinder, Patrol and popular sedan Sunny manufactured in 2003 and sold in the UAE.

The recall, according to the company, is due to potential defect in the airbag inflators used in the passenger airbag which it would replace on affected vehicles.

It asked vehicles owners who bought 2003 models of X-Trail, Pathfinder, Patrol and Sunny to have their vehicles inspected and repaired for the defect.

US automobile giant General Motors have also announced recall of 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac ATS 2013-2015 models.

Malibu is recalled because over the period an increased resistance can develop in the body control module connection system and result in voltage fluctuations or intermittency in the brake apply sensor circuit that can cause service brake lamp malfunction. As a result, the service brake lamps may illuminate when the service brakes are not being applied, or may not illuminate when the service brakes are being applied.

The company claimed that it’s safe to drive and customers who own models will soon be contacted by the General Motors dealers for the repair.

The US major has also recalled its Cadillac ATS 2013-2015 models due to defect in front lights.

The company will soon contact the customers to inspect the vehicle and if required will replace the part.

The Germany luxury automaker Audi has also announced recall of its A4, A5, Q5, A6, A7, Q7 and A8 built between April 2011 and April 2012 and imported into the UAE.

The vehicles are being recalled as there is a slight that a retaining bracket for the fuel line is not sufficiently rigid and may cause a small fuel leakage.

Audi said its dealers Al Nabooda Automobiles and Ali & Sons will inspect the vehicles and will replace the bracket and fuel pipe if necessary.

It said nearly 900 vehicles have been affected – 545 in Dubai and 356 in Abu Dhabi.
