Retailers are in the final rush to roll out their Ramadan offers, with some offering price cuts of nearly 33 per cent across more than 200 food items, while others are working in conjunction with the Ministry of Economy to roll out a price lock across other products.

Choithrams has announced offering subsidies of nearly Dh1 million during the fasting month, with its ‘Goodness Campaign’ providing almost 200 items on special promotional pricing. This campaign will run in conjunction with the retailer’s annual initiative of 130 items already price locked until year-end.

Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Consumer Protection, Ministry of Economy, also announced that suppliers and retailers cannot increase prices of essential consumer commodities during the holy month of Ramadan without consent by authorities.

Dr Al Nuaimi: “Aside from the Ramadan value offers, the company will also be offering special self-sustaining Ramadan hampers with 20 to 25 items, which will last a family of five for a full week, loaded with food and drink items; so four hampers are enough for the full month of fasting.”

Priced at Dh110 for the smaller one and Dh176 for the larger one, the hampers come packed with Ramadan favourites including Vimto, Rooh Afza, canned milk, sugar, rice, oil, oats and more.

Ramesh Thanwani, Partner, Choithrams said: “There will be promotional offers with discounts up to 33 per cent on the final price, available across all 31 branches of the group.”

When quizzed, Thanwani added: “During the month, we expect an increase in sales of nearly 15 per cent, concentrated on FMCG and fresh food.”

The promotion with the retailer will roll out from June 6 for three weeks, followed by an Eid Al Fitr campaign; the company has also pledged a portion of its total sales amount, approximately Dh85,000, to Dubai Cares as part of its charitable initiative.

Dr Nuaimi also took the opportunity to request consumers to shop smart during the fasting month and refraining from bulk buying items that would cause supplies to dangerously run low across certain produces.

He also advised the best way to shop for iftar or suhour would be to prepare a written list in advance to stop oneself from unnecessary buying.

The Ministry of Economy will be running regular inspection across retailers during Ramadan to ensure promotional offers are being met, with warning circulars issued in advance.

Earlier, retailer Carrefour had announced a similar promotion, with Ramadan offers spread across 300 products.
