Al Shafar General Contracting (ASGC) announced in a media statement today that it has been awarded a Dh488 million contract by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to build the Union Museum in Dubai.

Phase I of the Union Museum Building Project commenced last year with construction underway beside the Union House – the home of the second biggest UAE flag measuring 20 metres by 40 metres, fluttering 120 metres above the ground.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Trans Authority (RTA), had then said: “Construction works of Phase I of the project comprise preparing the site, shifting and protecting artefacts and exhibits in the onsite buildings, constructing a 6-metre high boundary wall, demolishing the aging buildings at site, inspecting and treating the soil, and shifting the utility lines.”

This new museum will chronicle the history of the UAE and will be located adjacent to Dubai’s Union House, where the country’s rulers signed the constitution of the UAE on December 2, 1971.

This contract entails the building of 8 distinct sections, each corresponding to specific historical periods or themes, in addition to all supporting facilities.

Bishoy Azmy, CEO of ASGC, said this new facility will chronicle and celebrate the UAE’s rich heritage and educate current and future generations, as well as international visitors, on the proud history of this country.

ASGC’s other major projects include the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, City Walk, the Golden Mile, Jumeirah Beach Residence Sector 6, Business Central Towers, Marina Bloom, Oceanscape, Vision Tower, Bay Square, Dubai International Airport Support Facilities and Dubai Police General Headquarters.
