UAE to London return for Dh600? Is this for real?

Flying to London for the weekend has never been so attractive and light on the pocket, or so it would seem according to adverts placed by Royal Brunei in local dailies.

But if it sounds too good to be true, it perhaps is.

In its latest promotion, Royal Brunei is offering return tickets from the UAE to London for just Dh600 in its economy class.

The adverts say the sale period is between now until February 7, and valid for travel between January 15 and March 31, 2013.

However, what the adverts mention in fine-print, and what Emirates 24|7 discovered while researching the same for you, is that prices soar after adding the “excludes relevant taxes, surcharges and ticketing office fees”.

The Dh600 price, obviously, excludes taxes and surcharges, and when added to the advertised price, the deal stops being as sweet as it might have looked at first glance.

The price goes up substantially when the taxes are added.

“The basic price is Dh600 but it goes up to Dh2100 after all the taxes and charges are added. (The departure date for this fare is February 20, and return on the 27th of the same month,” said an executive at the airline’s Al Ain office.

The website, on the other hand, shows a fare of Dh2,020 for the same dates.

Nevertheless, this still might be cheaper than other full-service airlines’ ticket prices for the same sector. Etihad offers a return price of Dh3,510 on the same dates, an Emirates ticket will set you back by Dh4,050 (same sector, same dates) while the same journey by Qatar Airways will cost Dh2,580.
