World's cheapest car goes global

India's automobile gaint, Tata Motors, to produce world's cheapest car Nano in Europe and South America. It has announced an aggressive plan to roll-out Nano from 3 different locations around the world as early as next year. 

Ratan Tata, chairman of Tata Motors, announced this at the share-holders annual general meeting on Friday.  With this Tata Motors intends to increase global penetration. The company is planning to establish assembly plants in Indonesia, Brazil and an East European Location. Besides Nano, the plants would also assemble Ace, which is being marketed in India both as a commercial pick-up and passenger transport vehicle. 

Nano car has so far recorded erratic sales since it roll-out in 2008. At an average Nano recorded sale of 3,000 to 7,000 units per month touching a peak of 10,012 units in April 2011. 

Tata Motors started exports to Sri Lanka, Nepal and distribution centers in small towns in India to expand order books, and recently opened another round of domestic bookings. Nano was unveiled on the world automobile map as a four-seated passenger car for Dhs 7,700. It now offers the entry-level standard version model for Dhs 9,600. 

The company claims the car is the most-fuel efficient car with 21per cent more space than standard cars and small turning radius of 4 meters. Tata Motors owns 37 technology and 31 design patents as also the UK-based Jaguar and Land Rover super luxury cars popular in the Gulf.
