Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has completed 184km (44 per cent) of a 418km water network extension project across different parts of Dubai.

The project is part of Dewa’s strategy to increase the efficiency and reliability of its water networks, to keep pace with the growing demand and increase in water flow across Dubai.

"The main objective of the project is to improve water transmission networks in new areas, and upgrade the existing network to reduce water losses.

“This is done by renovating the network, replacing old connections to houses, increasing operational efficiency, strengthening the water supply network, and increasing water flow capacity to meet sharp demand for water and contribute to the sustainable development of Dubai," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dewa.

"The project includes extending 100-450 mm Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) water transmission pipes, at an estimated total cost of Dh167 million.

“It will contribute effectively to the social, economic, and tourism development in the emirate by providing uninterrupted and stable supplies of water to maintain Dubai’s position as a global hub for trade, finance, and tourism," added Al Tayer.

"The project is proceeding as per the planned schedule and is expected to be completed within a year," concluded Al Tayer.
