BMW Group sales in Dubai, Sharjah and Norther Emirates have grown by 29 per cent to 2,014 in the first half of this year, its distributor AGMC said in a press statement on Monday.

AGMC demonstrated its intention of completing yet another successful year for BMW Group sales as it announced that it also achieved the highest sales for MINI in the entire Middle East, with 174 units sold, an 135 per cent sales increase.

The importer was also among the top three markets for sales of BMW Premium Selection, the company's pre-owned car programme selling 300 cars, an increase of 48 per cent over 2010.

Not only was the BMW 5 Series the biggest selling model across the Middle East, but it was also AGMC's best-selling car with 431 sales, a 161 per cent growth over last year. The BMW 5 Series is a core product for BMW and combines sporting and elegant design, excellent comfort, the highest standard in efficiency in its class and sets the benchmark in driving dynamics and safety having achieved 5 stars in both the Euro NCAP and US NCAP vehicle safety assessment programmes.

Contributing to AGMC solid performance in the first of 2011, the BMW 3 Series was among the top performing models, recording the highest sales growth of 176 per cent over the same period last year, with total sales of 372 vehicles. The BMW 7 Series was another top performer, with sales of 346 vehicles demonstrating continued demand for BMW's flagship model.

While MINI sales at AGMC continue to be led by the MINI Hatch, January's launch of the new MINI Countryman - the first MINI with four doors and four wheel drive capabilities - was a strong contributing factor to the brand's first half success. In addition, a new dedicated MINI showroom was launched in Dubai Media City to cater for the brand's progressive growth. The second half of 2011 will see MINI diversify, with the launch of the all-new MINI Coupé - the first two-seater MINI and sportiest model to join the portfolio.

"We have had a busy first half of 2011 and diversified our vehicle portfolio with the launch of three new models including the new BMW 6 Series convertible, BMW X3, and MINI Countryman. Furthermore, the continuous demand for vehicles from our existing line-up including the flagship BMW 7 Series, BMW 5 Series and X Range has allowed us to record sales growth once again. However, we will not allow success to make us complacent and will do our utmost to ensure we can build upon this success for the remainder of the year," said Kevin Hughes, General Manager of AGMC.

Overall, BMW Group Middle East has reported a 13 per cent growth in sales for the first half of 2011 compared to the same period last year, the world's most successful premium automotive manufacturer delivered a total of 9,134 BMW and MINI vehicles to customers across 14 Middle East markets. The UAE remains the company's biggest market accounting for 47 per cent of BMW and MINI sales.
