The UAE Central Bank has frozen four Iranian bank accounts in compliance with sanctions imposed by the UN on the Persian nation over its nuclear programmes, the semi-official daily al Ittihad reported on Tuesday.

Emirates 24|7 had first reported that 41 Iranian accounts were blacklisted by the UN Security Council within its sweeping sanctions against the Opec country.
The four are among those 41.

“These four are among that list and have accounts in UAE banks…the remaining 37 names do not have accounts…the frozen accounts are very small,” it quoted an unidentified Central Bank official as saying.

The paper said the Central Bank froze those accounts after it asked the country’s 23 national banks and 28 foreign units to supply it with any suspected accounts.

“They provided us with a list of names and we found those four names among them…we have not frozen any other Iranian bank accounts.”
