The first China-Arab States Expo kicked off on Sunday morning in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in the presence of His Majesty King Hamad bin Eisa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan and Governor of Ningxia.

The UAE delegation is headed by Abdullah Al Saleh, Under Secretary for the Foreign Trade Sector at the Ministry of Economy. The UAE delegation includes a number of top businesspersons and public officials.

The event is a key platform to promote the relationship between China and the Arab states. It features trade fairs and seminars on agriculture, energy, finance, culture, education and tourism.

The Governor of Ningxia delivered an inaugural speech in which he welcomed the delegates in the names of Chinese President and people.

Al Saleh thanked the organisers for their efforts, citing good preparation and organisation, noting that the event would further boost the joint economic relations between the GCC and China.

He added that the volume of trade exchange between the two sides doubled nine times over the last 10 years to $720 billion, of which the exports were $437 billion and imports $283 billion.

The Expo is jointly sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and the government of Ningxia. Its predecessor, known as China(Ningxia) International Investment and Trade Fair and the China-Arab States Economic and Trade Forum, has been held annually since 2010.

Ningxia is home to more than 10 per cent of China's 20 million Muslims.
