DFM capitalisation up 22% to Dh357.6 bn in Q3

The Dubai Financial Market General Index increased by 27.9 per cent to 5042.9 points at the end of this quarter compared to 3942.8 points at the end of second quarter 2014.

At the sectoral level, all nine indices represented on DFM ended the quarter in the green, with Real Estate and Construction sector increasing the most by 40.5 per cent, followed by the Financial and Investment Services and the Industrial sectors by 31.2 per cent, and 24.3 per cent respectively. The Banking and Services indices were up 21.3 per cent, and 16.7 per cent respectively.

The market capitalisation increased at the end of this quarter by 22.2 per cent amounting to Dh357.6 billion compared to Dh292.7 billion at the end of the previous quarter. The value of shares traded during this quarter reached Dh78.4 billion, compared to Dh126.9 billion recorded during the second quarter, down 38.2 per cent. The number of shares traded decreased by 24 per cent to reach 31.8 billion shares during this quarter compared to 41.9 billion shares traded during second quarter. The number of transactions executed during this quarter down 27.7 per cent to reach 522.4 thousand compared to 722.6 thousand deals carried out during the previous quarter.

As for the sectors' contribution to trading volumes, the Real Estate and Construction sector ranked first in terms of the traded value, to reach Dh57.6 billion, or 73.5 per cent of the total traded value in the market. The Banking sector ranked second at Dh9.6 billion or 12.2 per cent, followed by the Financial and Investment Services sector with Dh8.5 billion or 10.9 per cent. The Transportation sector with Dh1.4 billion or 1.7 per cent, the Telecommunication sector with Dh376.2 million or 0.5 per cent, the Insurance sector with Dh353.2 billion or 0.5 per cent, and the Services sector with Dh305.7 million or 0.4 per cent, and the Consumer staples sector with Dh303.6 million or 0.4 per cent.

The value of stocks bought by foreign investors during this quarter reached Dh35.2 billion comprising 44.9 per cent of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by foreign investors during the same period reached Dh33.7 billion comprising 43 per cent of the total value traded. Accordingly, DFM net foreign investment in-flow reached Dh1.5 billion.

The value of stocks bought by institutional investors during this quarter reached Dh18.7 billion comprising 23.8 per cent of the total traded value. The value of stocks sold by institutional investors during the same period reached Dh18.1billion, which constitutes 23.1 per cent of the total value. Net institutional investment in-flow from DFM amounted to Dh585million.
