Dh170m cable manufacturing plant opens in RAK

His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on Monday inaugurated the cable manufacturing plant of Middle East Specialized Cables (MESC) at the Al Ghail Industrial Park in Ras Al Khaimah.

The inaugural function took place in the distinguished presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, Emad Madani, Saudi Arabian Consul General in the UAE, Abdulaziz Al Namlah, Chairman and the Board Executive Director of MESC, and other dignitaries.

The plant, set up with an investment of Dh170 million by the MESC Group, headquartered in Riyadh, is one of the biggest and high-end technology plants in the region to produce industrial, instrumentation, control and low-voltage power cables.

Sheikh Saud said: "We are delighted to welcome MESC as the newest entrant to the rapidly growing portfolio of major industries that have set up base in emirate. Ras Al Khaimah in line with UAE's national policy has been trying to build a diversified model of economy by encouraging industries, tourism, trade and services and we are glad that the competitiveness of the emirate in the manufacturing sector is increasingly recognized by local and international companies."

Abdulaziz Al Namlah, Chairman and the Board Executive Director of MESC, said that the reason behind choosing Ras Al Khaimah to set up the plant was the infrastructural facilities and the competitive advantage offered by the emirate as an investor friendly destination.

"MESC's new manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khaimah is designed to supply UAE, Gulf countries and other markets with high-end quality cables as part of the company strategy to expand presence in strategic markets," he added.

The MESC-RAK plant has an advanced laboratory with extensive range of test and measurement equipments specifically for the flame retardant control and power cables, fire resistant instrumentation cables and low smoke halogen free cables. Moreover, MESC has the ability to design cables which comply with all major international standards such as IEC, BS, DIN VDE, ICEA, UL etc. The RAK facility has also achieved the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 18001 certifications.

The factory is spread over an area of 76,900 square metres which houses the production facility and separate warehouse, offices, workshops facilities and staff accommodation facilities.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Office of the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Mohammed bin Kayed Al Qasimi, Vice Chairman of RAK Department for Economic Development, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Abdulaziz Al Duailej, CEO of MESC, heads of government departments and a number of dignitaries were present at the function.
