Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday said the new decree by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has enhanced its role as the decree will allow non-profit organisations to better represent the business council and groups operating under its umbrella.

Hamad Buamim, Director General of Dubai Chamber, said the business councils and business groups will be recognised as legal entities and will be able to own and open new offices, apply for visas, hire staff, open bank accounts and will get all the benefits enjoyed by commercial establishments.

Speaking at the 4th quarterly roundtable meeting of the year, Buamim said the councils will now enjoy the status of legal entities which he said will provide a boost to the business sector in the emirate.

He said the new decree grants Dubai Chamber additional responsibilities in promoting Dubai internationally and in attracting more international non-profit organisations and associations to the emirate.

Buamim thanked His Highness Sheikh Mohammed for the unlimited support provided to the business community in Dubai. He lauded the wise leadership of the emirate which he said has encouraged and enhanced the competitiveness of Dubai businesses in the global arena.

The Director General said that the new decree will enable Dubai Chamber to attract a wide variety of global professionals under the Chamber’s latest initiative of opening up membership to overseas businesses in the near future.

Buamim said: “The new decree will help us strengthen our overseas presence which started with the opening of the first representative office in the Azerbaijani capital Baku recently and will be followed by offices in other parts of the world which will open up gate of opportunities for Dubai companies while enhancing their competitiveness in the global markets.”

He also said that the new decree will further enforce the leadership role played by Dubai Chamber since its inception in 1965 and will also enhance the role of the business councils and groups who can now better organise their work and increase the number of their members operating across a cross-section of
economic sectors in Dubai.

On their part, heads of 41 business councils representing that many countries and working under the umbrella of Dubai Chamber voiced their gratitude over the new decree which will open new opportunities for them.

They further said that this new decree will help the overall economic growth of the emirate as they jointly thanked Dubai Chamber for making this possible through years of hard work and for the Chamber’s continuous liaison with the government authorities in putting across their case and in getting their issue addressed with the concerned authorities.
