Dubai consumer price index at 4.7% in May

Data released by the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) shows that the emirate’s consumer price index rose to 4.7 per cent in May, its highest level since May 2009.

Housing and utility costs, which account for almost 44 per cent of consumer expenses, jumped 7.8 per cent from a year earlier in May and rose 0.7 per cent from the previous month.

Food and beverage prices, which account for 11 per cent of the basket, rose 1.7 per cent year-on-year and 3 per cent month-on-month, DSC said in its monthly update.
