The Expo 2020 Dubai team shared an update on the status of the Expo 2020 Dubai preparations with the General Assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the intergovernmental organisation in charge of overseeing the organisation of World and International Expos, in Paris today (Tuesday).

The gathering marks the last update prior to the submission of the Expo 2020 Dubai registration document to the Assembly, a fundamental part of the series of requirements for the official designation as the first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and Southern Asia (Measa) region.

“We are proud of the foundations we have laid to deliver an exceptional Expo.  In less than two years, we have established a solid governance structure, developed a robust strategy and team, and have a nation eager to host an extraordinary first World Expo for the region,” said Manal AlBayat, Vice President of Engagement for Expo 2020 Dubai.

In her presentation, Ms. AlBayat provided the General Assembly with a detailed overview of the upcoming registration document. The complete document will include a thorough brief of the Expo 2020 Dubai organisational and operational structure, policies, procedures, theme narrative and legacy plans.

“The BIE General Assembly can be assured that Expo 2020 Dubai will achieve our objectives, produce an Expo that will transform the UAE and the region, and leave a substantive global impact. With the submission of the Expo 2020 Dubai Registration Document, we will present a comprehensive and definitive implementation plan for Expo 2020 Dubai,” said Ms. AlBayat.

The Expo 2020 Dubai team also highlighted some recent initiatives including an ongoing national engagement campaign and international participation in Expo 2015 Milan. Programmes such as the ‘For Everyone’ campaign and the new logo design competition, amongst others, continue to build awareness of the history and value of World Expos and drive UAE participation and aspirations to present a successful and memorable Expo 2020 Dubai.

“From the start we recognised the vital role our own people played, not simply in winning the bid, but in delivering a successful Expo. At every stage of the bid process, the support of our nation, their pride in our achievements and their wholehearted commitment encourages us on to exceed our vision and create something both magnificent and meaningful,” shared Ms. AlBayat.

Restating the commitment of the UAE’s leadership and that of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Preparatory Committee, Ms. AlBayat shared that transparency underpins Expo 2020’s activities and assured the General Assembly that all aspects of preparation, from the team, procurement, engagement and more are being undertaken thoroughly and meticulous processes are being established to fully support an open, seamless and welcoming Expo 2020 Dubai.
