Italy delegations to visit UAE to boost FMCG trade

A large number of Italian companies will visit the UAE to meet local businessmen in order to discuss increasing trade in fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector between the two countries.

The business community in the UAE will also be provided with the events calendar list slated to take place in the European country to take part in the trade fairs, Liborio Stellino, Italian Ambassador to the UAE Liborio Stellino, said during his visit to Al Maya Supermarket – the retail chain of Al Maya Group.

Kamal Vachani, Group Director of Al Maya Group, said his group will participate in the food trade show in Italy in a big way and is looking to add more products to its existing Italian range of FMCG goods.

“We import a large variety of products from Italy and are looking to expand imports during our next visit to the exhibitions there. We’ve been visiting Italy for buyers/sellers meet regularly… and will take all steps to ensure import more and more products from Italy for marketing through Al Maya Supermarkets,” Vachani added.

The Group currently operates more than 40 supermarkets across the UAE and GCC and is planning to open more by the end of 2015, Vachani said.

Trade between the UAE and Italy is growing in single digits, reaching over 6.2 billion euros last year.

Bilateral relations between the two countries have become stronger of late as large number of high profile delegations from Dubai has been visiting Milan Expo. Dubai has won the bid to host the next Expo in 2020.
