Lamprell gets Dh1.1bn NDC offshore rigs contract

National Drilling Company (NDC) has awarded a contract to Lamprell to construct two offshore oil drilling jack up rigs with cost in excess of Dh1.1 billion.

The contract was signed by Abdalla Saeed Al Suwaidi, NDC General Manager, and Nigel McCue, Lamprell Chief Executive Officer.
 
In the signing ceremony held at NDC Head Office in Abu Dhabi, Al Suwaidi stated that the award of this project marks a significant milestone in NDC history; it comes in line with its strategic plans to meet the future needs of its clients.
 
The rigs will be built according to the most advanced international standards and conform to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) vision on health, safety and environment.
 
He expressed appreciation to the Abu Dhabi government for the wise vision and guidance and extended thanks to the government and Adnoc management for approving this project.
 
Presently, NDC operates a fleet of 28 drilling rigs (18 onshore and 10 offshore) and looking forward to almost double this number in the coming years, it also has a Multi-Purpose Service Vessel, as well as five water well rigs.
 
On October 2009, NDC awarded a contract to Baoji Oil Field Machinery company represented by China Petroleum Technology '&' Development Corporation to construct several drilling rigs with cost around Dh800 million.
 
On March 2010, NDC awarded Maritime Industrial Services (MIS) a contract for the refurbishment of jack-up drilling rig NDC Al Bzoom with cost around Dh200 million.
