Marka, the first public joint stock company focused on retail sector in the UAE, today announced that it has been named the exclusive franchise operator in the GCC for CR7 Footwear – Cristiano Ronaldo’s new exclusive footwear collection.

The first ‘CR7 Footwear’ store is slated to open its doors in February 2015 – simultaneously with the brand’s global launch.

Much like the world-class drive that possesses Ronaldo, the brand’s inspiration, Marka will focus on an aggressive expansion strategy that will see the opening of 11 monobrand stores across the GCC within the next seven years. This presence will be further solidified with additional shop-in-shop locations planned in premium department stores.

Jamal Al Hai, Chairman of Marka, said: “Through his football skills and his style, Cristiano Ronaldo has evolved into a global inspiration and cultural icon. Here at Marka, we are delighted to be bringing his brand of footwear to GCC customers. We believe Ronaldo’s commitment to quality and perfection, both on and off the pitch, are in-line with our long-term vision to be one of the premier retail operators in the region.”

Based on the identity of Cristiano Ronaldo, in terms of his image and behavior, the collection is designed to meet the demands of consumers who identify themselves with excellence, performance and sophistication. CR7 Footwear is also for individuals who aspire to have luxurious fashion items, whilst also enjoying a casual lifestyle.

Khaled Almheiri, Vice Chairman of Marka, added: “Marka was launched with a vision to be the leader in the affordable luxury retail category. Our exclusive partnership with a brand of this stature is testament to our vision and demonstrates our ambitious growth strategy and international ambitions. CR7 Footwear will be the first of many brands we plan on rolling out in the region; we are confident that they will all resonate with the discerning GCC clientele.”

Nick Peel, Chief Executive Officer of Marka, said: “We are delighted to unveil ‘CR7 Footwear’ as the first major brand in Marka’s retail portfolio. This deal will further add momentum to our business over the coming years. It is also indicative of the multifaceted strategy we have put in place to deliver greater value to our shareholders.”

With a capital of Dh500 million, the company will commence trading on the DFM on September 25 under the trading symbol “Marka”.
