The UAE Ministry of Economy today started a new series of market inspections for the Holy Month of Ramadan under its ongoing programme focusing on visiting a group of cooperatives and major retail outlets in the country.

During the last two weeks, the Ministry visited vegetable, fruit, meat, chicken, and fish markets in all the Emirates.

In this context, the Ministry organized today in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (Added) an inspection of Lulu Hypermarket in Abu Dhabi’s Al Wahda Mall.

Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the Ministry’s Consumer Protection Department, conducted today’s visit with the participation of representatives from Added and LuLu Hypermarket’s management and in the presence of various local media members.

The Lulu Hypermarket management team announced during the tour that it has launched a campaign to reduce prices during the holy month of Ramadan covering more than 5,000 food articles worth Dh25 million, and also locked the price of 135 products throughout the year in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy.

The Lulu team added that they have set for this year two Ramadan Baskets, one with 20 items worth Dh130 and another with 12 items worth Dh90.

On the sidelines of the visit, Dr. Al Nuaimi said that prices at Lulu Hypermarket are stable and meet the needs of consumers, with some goods priced as much as 70 per cent less than their original value.

Dr. Al Nuaimi urged consumers to get in touch with the Ministry’s consumer protection center at 600522225 in case they have any complaint, comments or proposals for consumer protection, or to communicate with the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi at 800 555.
