Passenger traffic at Sharjah International Airport jumped seven per cent to 814,648 passengers in April compared to 761,313 in April 2014.

According to the traffic report issued by the Sharjah Airport Authority, the airport recorded a total of 5,823 aircraft movements in April 2015, increased by 4.47 per cent compared to 5,574 in April 2014.

It handled more than 16,000 tons of cargo, while sea-air cargo was around 1,761 tons which was affected by the global economic slowdown.

Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said the figures reflect consistent growth in passenger traffic over the past years.

“We expect this growth momentum to be maintained during the summer period. It's a clear indication that our confidence in the continued growth at Sharjah International Airport is well placed."

Al Midfa also added: “The presence of Air Arabia, our national carrier, indeed adds a great value to Sharjah International Airport, with all its unique services among travelers. We also make sure that our passengers are met and handled efficiently, while deploying additional service personnel across the airport to make sure that our service remains at a world class level. In addition of the strategic location of the emirate of Sharjah and the airport, all these factors encourage our passengers to travel several times a year through Sharjah International Airport".
