Sharjah City Centre to be expanded

Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Properties has announced Dh200 million investment in Sharjah City Centre, a popular community landmark, to expand and enhance the shopper experience.

The project is intended to meet the increased demands as a result of the retail boom in Sharjah and to also reward the mall’s loyal customers with exciting new shopping and entertainment options.

The redevelopment project includes an expansion of Sharjah City Centre’s retail space by an additional 13,500sqm of gross leasable area, to welcome 28 new shopping and dining options together with a state-of-the-art multi-screen VOX Cinemas to further boost the centres shopping and leisure options.  In addition, as part of the redevelopment, the mall’s existing public areas and facilities will also be upgraded.

“Sharjah City Centre’s expansion and refurbishment promotes the emirate’s wider aims to further develop its retail and entertainment landscape, and cater to the increasing needs of its growing population and increasing number of tourists,” said Dimitri Vazelakis, Executive Managing Director – Shopping Malls from Majid Al Futtaim Properties.

With the planning process already under way, Sharjah City Centre’s redevelopment is projected to start in the summer of 2014.  Tailoring its retail mix to the needs of the community, there will be 25 new mid-market and lifestyle focused shopping options, together with three new food & beverage outlets. Sharjah City Centre’s will also significantly expand its entertainment offer with the introduction of a premium multi-screen VOX Cinemas, offering local residents with the latest blockbusters on their doorstep using advanced digital cinema technology. The new cinema will further expand the mall’s family leisure attractions, which currently includes the popular Magic Planet entertainment centre.
