Japanese auto giants Toyota has recalled 65,085 cars in the UAE over safety issues regarding their power master window switch.

“Following communication with Toyota Motor Corporation, we have begun a customer service campaign on the Power Master Window Switch on some vehicles in the Toyota range," said Simon Firth, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Motors, the distributor of Toyota vehicle, in a statement to Emirates 24l7.

“The purpose of the campaign is to inspect the sliding electrical contact module in the driver’s side Power Window Master Switch (PWMS).

“If the customer has applied commercially available lubricants to address any sticky feeling of the switch, it is possible that the switch could melt,” read the statement.

In the UAE, the models affected are Camry, Corolla, Rav4, Sequoia and Yaris, manufactured between 2006 and 2010.

Camry March 2006 - April 2010 35,647 vehicles
Corolla October 2006 - May 2010 13,833 vehicles
RAV 4 September 2006 - May 2010 3,443 vehicles
Sequoia November 2007 - December 2008 237 vehicles
Yaris February 2006 - April 2010 11,925 vehicles

The campaign will start today, and Toyota will contact the customers directly for an appointment at their service centers.

“All vehicles will require a 45-minute inspection. Should any lubricant be required to be applied, the team will apply correct lubricants to the PWMS.

“In order to maintain the overall satisfaction of our customers, we will ensure that any inconvenience is kept to an absolute minimum and thank our customers for the patience and understanding.”

This is part of a worldwide recall, which will affect a whopping 7.4 million cars.

In Europe, it will affect 1.39 million cars, reported BBC website, while it will impact 1.38 million in UK, 2.47 million in the US and 1.4 million in China.

In Japan, the figures stand at 459,000 and in Australia and Asia at 650,000.

Toyota confirmed that the window problem has not caused any accidents or causalities so far.
