The Central Bank has told the UAE’s banks not to hold separate meetings with representatives of embassies and other diplomatic missions in the country, saying any such meeting should be in the Central Bank’s presence.
In a circular, the Central Bank said all banks and financing institutions must first contact its auditing department to arrange for such meetings, adding that the person to be contacted is Saleh Al Tinaij.
“You are asked not to hold separate meetings with representatives of diplomatic missions or their visiting delegations.
“Any such meetings must be arranged through the Central Bank,” it said.
The statement did not give reasons for such a move but it noted that the Central Bank is the “official supervisory body” for the 51 banks and all other financial establishments in the second largest Arab economy.
