UAE firm wins Dh3bn army deal

A government-owned UAE defence industries company has won a contract worth Dh3 billion to supply military vehicles to the country’s armed forces.

Nimr Automotative, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Tawazun industrial company, said it would supply Nimr 6X6 and 4X4 vehicles under the deal which was signed with the UAE Armed Forces General Headquarters (GDQ).

The GHQ said the decision to buy the vehicles was in line with its policy to keep abreast with the latest in global defense industries and to support national industrial capabilities.

Tawazun Chief Executive Officer Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri thanked the GHQ for selecting Nimr vehicles and said the company is determined to utilize all resourcesand expertise to ensure timely delivery of the vehicles.

Nimr Automotive CEO Fahad Saif Harhara said the contract is timed with the company’s plans to open its new state-of-the-art facilities within Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi to meet the huge demand for Nimr armored vehicles.

In February, the GHQ announced its intention to purchase 6X6 and 4X4 multi-variant vehicles, manufactured by Nimr Automotive following successful extensive all-terrain tests for the vehicle in the UAE.

"The vehicle exceeded the GHQ's required operational standards in terms of design, performance, mobility and others," the statement said.
