A US defence delegation visited the industrial facilities of Abu Dhabi’s Tawazun Holding Saturday and discussed possible cooperation with the offset company.

The delegation is part of the US Commercial Aerospace & Defense Trade Mission - headed by Lieutenant General (Ret.) Lawrence P. Farrell, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of National Defense Industrial Association.

Tawazun’s Chief executive Officer Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri met with the mission and reviewed with them ways to boost cooperation in knowledge, know-how and technology transfer, as well as exchange of expertise and sharing of best practices, Tawazun said in a statement.

A presentation session was held with the agenda including an overview of the Offset Policy, Tawazun holding and its subsidiaries; Caracal International, Tawazun Precision Industries, Burkan and Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investments, it added.

“Tawazun was presented as a strategic investment holding firm that leads the development of an industrialized and knowledge-based economy and creates opportunities for the people in the UAE.”

Hamad Khalifa Al Neyadi, Chief Strategic Officer of Tawazun, highlighted the Company’s activities, saying that the primary goals of Tawazun holding are setting up “attractive ventures through partnerships and constructive relationships and by making strategic investments in focused sectors, creating value and transferring capability to the UAE.”

“The foundation of Tawazun’s Objectives is the Abu Dhabi 2030 Plan….Emiratisation, economic diversification, technology transfer, contribution to the industrial base, training and developing of human resources’ capabilities and skills are the key drivers of these objectives. Investments are focused on technology and knowledge-based companies and the portfolio covers both systems and components,” he said.

Following the presentations, members of the mission toured the manufacturing facilities of Caracal, TPI and Burkan in Suwaihan.

Danny E. Sebright, President of the US – UAE Business Council said the U.S. defense and aerospace businesses were looking forward to establish business partnership and sharing knowledge and know-how to the UAE.

He noted that half of the companies represented in the mission had never been to the UAE before, adding that he saw the mission’s visit to the UAE as “a wonderful opportunity for smaller defense companies to gain an insight of the UAE’s requirements and vision for the future in the defense sector.”

“American companies can see where it make sense for them to try to partner, to create joint ventures and to invest on the ground alongside Emirati partners.”
