UAE-based fuel retailer Adnoc Distribution will need to recruit thousands of employees in order to operate its new fuel station slated to be opened over the next six months across the country.

Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, CEO of Adnoc Distribution, said the company aims to open 86 petrol stations across the country which includes those of acquired from Emarat and Enoc.

"In Sharjah, we have 31 stations owned and operated by Adnoc. We are confident that the transfer of all non-operational service station facilities in Sharjah to Adnoc Distribution’s network will be completed by the beginning of 2016. So in all we expect to open 86 outlets by the end of this year or early next year, taking the number of stations to 386 including those of acquired by Adnoc," Al Dhaheri said.

The Adnoc chief was speaking to the media after the reopening of Al Dar service station on Sharjah-Dubai direction Al Ittihad Road. The refurbished facility is the first to become operational under the transfer of assets agreement signed with Enoc last year.

Apart from eight fuel dispensers, the facility has been fitted out with conveniences such as the Adnoc Oasis, bakery, and fast food outlets.

The company plans to open three more outlets in Sharjah's Seyouh, Al Badayah and Corniche areas after Eid Al Fitr which is expected to fall on July 17.

Al Dhaheri added: "We are currently working to finalise the re-opening of the 24 remaining service stations in a phased manner after conducting the overhauling and maintenance works, as well as the health, environment, safety and IT checks. As per the agreement, we are confident that the transfer of all 25 non-operational service station facilities in Sharjah to Adnoc Distribution’s network will be completed by the beginning of 2016. Spread across various locations, the service stations will serve our strategy to provide holistic services while remaining easily accessible to our patrons across the UAE."

In order to renovate the new stations and invest in technology and enhancement of infrastructure of the stations, Adnoc will pump Dh100 million – or Dh4m each – under Enoc transfer agreement, Al Dhaheri said.

Commenting on the requirement of the staff for the upcoming fuel stations, Al Dhaheri said around 30 to 50 staff are required to operate the terminal depending on its size.

"Maximum it goes to 50-55 employees if it’s a big station. On average we can say 35 (people are required) per stations."

Based on this estimates of 35 employees for the each of 86 stations Adnoc Distribution aims to open, it will need more than 3,000 employees over the next six months.

The company has around 10,000 employees in the retail division which includes both the UAE nationals and expatriates.
