The Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has announced the commissioning and inauguration of the Dh105 million Al Khan power transmission and distribution station as part of the Sharjah government’s plans for expansion of the transmission network to cope with the Emirate’s projected rising energy demands.

Dr. Rashid Al Leem, the Chairman of Sewa, said the 132/33/11 kv station would mainly meet electricity needs in new residential districts in Al Khan, Al Nahda and Al Taawun, in an efficient and timely manner.

"Sewa is working at full throttle to complete all power and water projects within its Strategic Plan 2020 so as to provide reliable electricity, water and natural gas services to customers," he added.

The operation of the high-voltage station, he said, would help boost reliability and efficiency of power supply in Sharjah and will make a paradigm shift in upgrading efficiency and capacity of the power grid so as to meet growing demand for these vital services in high density areas.

Siemens has been awarded a turnkey contract from Sewa for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and handing over of the station.

"The project has been completed in a record time ahead of schedule, in just of five months," he noted.

In line with its commitment to provision of high quality supply of electricity, water and gas, and continuous development of its facilities, Sewa has since its inception, carried out continuous expansion programmes to meet the increasing demand for the electricity, water and natural gas and improved the quality of various services rendered to the customers throughout the Emirate by using state-of-the-art technologies.
