Etihad Airways, one of the fastest growing carriers, has signed two new flight agreements with New Zealand and Kazakhstan as part of an ongoing expansion worldwide, its chief executive officer has said.

James Hogan also said the Abu Dhabi-based carrier is planning to double its daily direct flights to the northwestern UK city of Manchester, which has become of the busiest destinations for the Airways.

Writing in the Company’s monthly bulletin, Etihadinflight, Hogan Etihad currently operates one non-stop flight a day to Manchester and the plan to double those flights would start on August 1.

He said the expansion in flights to Manchester follows a decision to increase flights to Bangalore in India to daily services from the end of March.

“Our global flight network has also expanded through two new codeshare agreements-one with Air New Zealand and one with Air Astana (Kazakhstan).”

Hogan said the deal with Air New Zealand offers several flight options to cities there, including Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

He said such an agreement would strengthen Etihad’s commitment to Australasia and complement its alliance with Virgin Blue, which offers 45 new destinations in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.

“Etihad ‘EY’ code will appear on Air New Zealand flights between Sydney and the cities of Christchurch, Rotorua, Wellington and Queenstown, flights between Brisbane and Auckland, Brisbane and Christchurch and Beijing and Auckland, as well as flights into Melbourne from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.”

Hogan said the “codeshare” agreement with Air Astana, places the company “EY” code on services operated by that carrier to Abu Dhabi from Almaty and Astana. He said that Air Astana places its “KC” code on Etihad flights between Abu Dhabi and Astana and Almaty, adding that the two carriers operate 15 weekly services between Abu Dhabi and these two airports.

Hogan also unveiled a new holiday programme launched by Etihad ahead of the peak summer season. He said it covers 68 destinations across two brochures-the first to those looking to ventures to Europe, North America and Africa and the second for Asia, the Middle East and Australia.

“There is a choice of holidays in more than 25 countries and five continents,” he said, adding that the brochures can be viewed on Etihad’s website.
