Dubai-based flydubai has become the first airline in the Gulf to use a Windows 8 application at Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 to facilitate passenger check-in, reducing the process to only two minutes per passenger.

The app runs on touch-enabled tablets that connect to the airline’s back-end services and is integrated with a passport scanner and printer. The app aims to ease the process of check-in for passengers by allowing staff to scan passenger information, assign seats and issue boarding passes on the spot, thus reducing the process to only two minutes per passenger.

"We are constantly looking for new ways to provide our customers with the best possible travel experience and we were really delighted to have had this opportunity to work with Microsoft to develop this new tablet-based app. We are confident that this new product will help make our customers’ journeys easier. We are grateful to Microsoft for their partnership in developing the app, which will help us reduce peak waiting times at check-in for our customers at Dubai airport,"  said Alex Mackenzie, flydubai’s Senior Vice President, Airport Services.

Michael Mansour, Directors of Apps and Innovation at Microsoft Gulf, said, "The Windows 8 app developed for flydubai is a regional first, enabling staff to check-in passengers on the go. The flydubai app is an excellent example of how Windows 8 enables organisations to do more based on the software’s operational flexibility and features."
