Al-Futtaim Honda has announced recall of Odyssey 2014 models due to problem with airbag on the passenger’s side, becoming the third auto company to recall vehicles in the UAE in April.

The distributor of Honda vehicles said the decision has been taken jointly with Honda Motor Co. and the UAE’s Ministry of Economy to recall 104 affected vehicles of 2014 model.

April 2014 has seen recall of huge number of vehicles from the automobile manufacturers in the UAE. Two companies announced recall of around 100,000 vehicles in the UAE earlier this month.

Al-Futtaim Motors, distributor of Toyotal vehicles, had announced recall of around 95,000 cars in the UAE while BMW also announced the recall of nearly 4,743 vehicles.

Al-Futtaim Honda said: “During assembly of the electrical couple for the side curtain airbag on the passenger’s side of the vehicle, it is possible that the shorting terminal, which is used to prevent deployment of the airbag before it is assembled into the vehicle, may have been damaged. A damaged short terminal may illuminate the SRS indicator as well as prohibit the side curtain airbag from deploying during a crash”.

The company said it will replace, if required, parts to ensure peace of mind to its customers.

Customers of the affected vehicles can contact distributor’s customer care centre 800-46632 for more information.
