iPhone 5 launch on September 12

iPad Mini likely to be also launched on the same date

It's official. Well, as such reports go, almost official. Apple plans to have a special event on September 12, a day after the 9/11 anniversary to debut its all new iPhone.

It is also expected that the much awaited iPad mini – the 7-inch competitor to Samsung Note will be announced on the same day.

Tech blog iMore says Apple will debut its iPhone 5 at a special event planned for Wednesday, September 12, 2012. iMore says the source is trusted and has proven accurate in the past.

It further adds that the phone will be released into the market nine days later on September 21.

Emirates 24|7 had earlier reported about the September 21 release date.

As expected Apple has neither confirmed nor denied the news. There has been a lot of speculation about the release date of the iPhone 5.

A Chinese business daily had earlier reported that there could be some delay in the release date of the new iPhone due to a shortage of the 28-nanometer fabrication - an advanced production technology which Apple is using for its new device but which is known only to a few companies.

Meanwhile, Apple could also launch the latest version of iPod Touch and Nano on September 12.

The new iPod comes with a much larger and thinner screen and will run on iOS 6 which was announced during Apple's WWDC 2012 on June 11.

Earlier this week, hi-resolution pictures of an iPhone built to exact specifications were released.
