Kuwait has extended the deadline of a bid for a 350 million dinar ($1.2 billion) project to build the 5th gas pipeline to its Mina Al Ahmadi refinery from Dec 7, 2014 to Jan 25, 2015, according to a newspaper in the Gulf OPEC producer.

“The central tenders committee now expects the contract to be awarded in March or April 2015,” the Arabic language daily Al Rai said.

It said nine companies have been pre-qualified to bid for the contract, including Técnicas Reunidas of Spain, Abu Dhabi-based Petrofac Emirates, Saipem of Italy, and South Korea’s SK Group, Samsung Engineering, Daelim, GS, Hyundai Engineering, and Hyundai Heavy Industries.

“Sources expect strong interest by more companies for the contract given the size of the project and the budget allocated for it,” the paper said.

It said the bidders include individual firms except Hyundai Engineering which is bidding as a consortium with Hyundai Engineering and Construction.

In a previous report, Al Rai said the 5th gasline project, tendered on LSTK  (lump sum turnkey) basis, would link Kuwait’s eastern onshore Burgan oilfield and northern fields with Al Ahmadi refinery in the southeast.

The pipeline will transport associated and non-associated gas for treatment at the processing facilities and will be completed within 2-3 years, it said.
