Trolleys heaving under the weight of 50-inch televisions, customers juggling to carry shopping bags weighed down with bundles are sights to behold as the Gitex Shopper reaches its final swansong of the eight-day electronics expo, which ends today (Oct 4) at the stroke of midnight.

With a buyer’s frenzy awaiting retailers, many have slashed prices further or upped the bundles to add more value to the deals, while marketing them as ‘steals’ at the Shopper.

Peter Ogansean, Volume Sales Manager at the HP stand said: “People are cash-rich this Gitex and are willing to bypass the entry level products to reach for the mid-range to the high-end ones, which are bundled up with good offers that add value to their purchase.”

The company has pushed two new deals in on Friday to target both sets of customers, with a 14-inch touchscreen laptop that was earlier retailing at Dh2,699 seeing a Dh700 price drop; freebies are still included in the i5 device.

The second is the Dh3,999 bundle offer that includes an i7 device, along with a 360 Notebook valued at Dh1,699.

The company states it has already sold 20 devices in the morning across both deals within the first two hours of the Shopper on Friday.

While laptops continue to create a buzz at the Shopper, customers are also cashing in on the TV offers, with once such customer, Maria Boco was seen rolling out her new Samsung 40-inch LED TV within the first hour of Gitex opening on Friday.

The Filipina national said: “We found a good offer on the TV so we immediately bought it; the TV was priced at Dh2,000 at Sharaf DG with a Dh700 cash back offer. We didn’t hesitate.”

Niranjan Jain, who was seen walking out with his own 55-inch Hisense Android TV from Emax said: “I bought this TV for Dh3,999 after I got a cash back offer of Dh1,000. Plus, I got two free air tickets with this. My TV has already returned half its value without me even leaving the Shopper.”

Meanwhile, the ever popular smartphones segment has its own fan following with Adnan Falasi walking out with a Lenovo Vibe Z device from Jumbo Electronics, with a free 40-inch TV; the bundle set him back Dh1,699.

“This is insane; a phone with a free TV is the kind of stuff you read about but the deal always seems too good to be true. But it works very well when you are already in the market to purchase a phone and an offer like this happens to come along,” he said.

Other popular smartphones with TV deals include some Nokia Lumia models, along with the Huawei P7.
