Leaked: iPhone 5 unlocked factory prices on Apple’s US Store

Apple has, accidentally it seems, leaked the prices for 18 unlocked versions of iPhone 5 prices in the US on its Apple Store website.

Although the unlocked versions of the new iPhone 5 are being retailed in many countries, including in the UK, Apple usually releases the unlocked version in the US a while after the handset launches with its various carrier partners.

In the US, depending on memory size (16GB, 32GB and 64GB), the prices are stacked at $649 (Dh2,384), $749 (Dh2,751), and $849 (Dh3,118).

On the other hand, UK prices for comparative memory sizes are £529 (Dh3,107), £599 (Dh3,518), and £699 (Dh4,105), making the 64GB variant of the iPhone 5 more expensive by approximately Dh1,000 (£170, $272) in the UK than in the US.

Nevertheless, even though Apple may have accidently leaked the prices for the factory unlocked versions of the iPhone 5 in the US, the release date is still unknown, and it may take some more time for Apple to launch the device in the US without carrier support.

The prices also reveal the approximate amount of subsidy that carriers provide to the device – with the three versions of the locked iPhone 5 being retailed at $199, $299, and $399, carrier subsidy works out to $450 (Dh1,653) per device.
