LG takes on Samsung in 'style vs stylus' battle

In what many industry watchers are looking at as a direct battle for market share with Samsung, its South Korean peer LG has unveiled a new smartphone with the stylus just days ahead of the Samsung Note 4 launch.

Called the LG G3 Stylus, the device will feature a 5.5-inch qHD display, 1.3 GHz Quad-Core chipset, 8 GB internal storage with an expandable MicroSD slot, 1 GB RAM and 13MP camera.

The stylish device, however, is no match to the more powerful Samsung Note.

The Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 5.7 inch QHD display, and a 16MPsensor for the rear camera.

But what’s in focus is the performance of the Stylus vis-à-vis the Samsung S Pen. While LG is expected to unveil the device at the IFA in Berlin, Samsung too is expected to showcase the Note 5 with comparatively more advanced features at the IFA.

Meanwhile, the Stylus of the LG G3 will have a rubberised feel to it, which as it says is expected to make it more “comfortable in any hand and is perfect for effortless jotting, doodling and sketching with precision.”

The smartphone will be loaded with apps and features that will be adaptable to function with the new stylus.

Among the features are:

QuickMemo+ which combines Memo and Notebook apps.

Dual Window which divides the screen into two separate windows for multitasking.

The Smart Keyboard according to LG will “intuitively adjusts to users’ typing patterns for faster input with fewer mistakes, reducing errors by up to 75 percent.”

Touch & Shoot that will let users to touch anywhere on the display to focus and shoot, reducing a two-step process to just one.

Gesture Shot allows users to take selfies by opening and closing one’s hand in front of the lens to start a three-second countdown before the shutter is triggered.

The device will first go to Brazil in September followed by Asia, Middle East and Africa and CIS.
