BlackBerry, which recently launched the Passport, launches more devices before the year-end.

Sources in the know told Emirates24|7 during the recent Gitex Technology Week that the Canadian smartphone manufacturer could be working to release more devices before the year-end.

However, it is not confirmed if the company will pursue with the Passport-styled device, or go back to traditional smartphone designs.

The Passport, with its square, 4.5-inch screen, was launched last month and has been in short supply since.

CEO John Chen said: "We are slowly making a comeback. I cannot say it is spectacular growth, but we are coming back."

BlackBerry's handset sales declined from a little over 52 million units in 2010 to about 13 million units in 2013.

Another buyout?

There have also been rumours of another BlackBerry buyout. According to reports, it’s the Chinese smartphone maker Lenovo that is eyeing BlackBerry.

Lenovo claims to have reached the number three spot in the UAE and now, in India as well. The company also recently acquired Motorola.
