No cut in services to Discovery Gardens: Nakheel

Nakheel, Dubai-based developer, has said that no utility or third-party services have been disrupted in Discovery Gardens, irrespective of the several reminders sent to apartment owners to pay their services charges.

“Despite many owners not fulfilling their obligations of paying their service charges, Nakheel continues to provide owners the benefits of uninterrupted services,” a company spokesman told Emirates 24|7.

"Nakheel is making every effort to safeguard the interest and welfare of all the owners and we would like to bring this to the kind attention of all the owners that prompt payment of service charges is a collective responsibility of all the owners as it serves all the owners in a building which is an integral part of the larger community,” he added.

On March 11, Emirates 24|7 was first to report that Nakheel had issued a warning to apartment owners in Discovery Gardens to pay service charges or face utility and third-party service disruption.

The first warning was issued in December 2011, which called on owners to pay their outstanding service charges by January 25, or face legal action to even being restricted from accessing their buildings.

A spokesperson revealed that the company was working to resolve the issue and was hoping that owners will respond and pay.

“However, it is the sole responsibility of each owner (by law) to ensure the timely payment of the service charge since the funds collected are then used to pay for the services and utilities,” he added.

In February, interim Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Manchanda said that Nakheel had not cutback any services across any of its master communities despite the number of service charge defaulters ranging between 60 and 70 per cent.

Discovery Gardens master development consists of six themed communities inspired by garden living, and includes Zen, Mediterranean, Contemporary, Mogul, Mesoamerican and Cactus courtyard gardens.

The development spans 26 million square feet and has 291 buildings.
