The Ministry of Economy has instructed all services outlets to stop imposing fees on credit card payment and warned violators would be fined Dh100,000.

The decision has already been enforced on such services as health, education and aviation and it would be extended to all other services by the end of this year.

Shops and other outlets in this sector have been told to stop imposing any fees on credit card transactions and the decision will be fully enforced by the end of 2016.

“Fees on credit card transactions in all services will be stopped by the end of this year. We have instructed all outlets to stop levying such fees and to put stickers showing they are now taking fees,” said Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the Consumer Protection department at MOE.

Quoted by the Arabic language daily 'Emarat Al Youm', he said those who do not comply with this decision would be fined Dh100,000 and urged the public to report any offences to the consumer contact centre at the Ministry.
